Crash Performance - NCHRP 350 Test Levels 2 and 3

The Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs) offer many unique featurs that extend the life of the TMA, keep it in service without interruption and significantly reduce maintenance costs. Available in two versions: Alpha 70K for Test Level 2 and SafeStop for Test Level 3 NCHRP 350 Approval, the TMAs offer a wide range of protection for workers, motorists and equipment. The TMAs are designed to absorb collision energy during rear-end impacts, prevent impacting vehicles from underriding the truck and reduce expensive equipment damage.

Each system is constructed of a lightweight aluminum cartridge(s) with a reusable steel support frame. Simple attachment mount to the truck with supporting crack jacks allow the TMA to be easily attached/detached and moved. Both have hydraulic systems to lower and raise the TMA for storage.

Applications Slow moving mobile operations, such as striping, sweeping, spraying, marking and mowing. Stationary operations, such as work crews maintaining or repairing crash cushions, guiderails, bridges or road surfaces. Winter maintenance operations, such as spreading and plowing.

SafeStop 180 - The ULTIMATE In TMAs

The Safe-Stop TMA with the 180º Tilt feature provides maximum protection with minimal length, weight and height. The 180º Tilt feature makes this TMA the shortest height TMA when in its storage mode, which is ideal for garage storage and low underpasses.

The Safe-Stop 180º TMA’s cartridges fold at the center, reducing the total system’s height to just 2.08 m (6’10”). The two cartridge sections literally stack on top of each other.

Meets NCHRP 350, Test Level 3. Ideal for high-speed work zones up to 100 km/h (62 mph). Over 50% reusability after a typical design impact. Road tested over 2500 miles (4000 km). Simple attachment options mount to standard truck underrides. Withstands nuisance hits up to 10 km/h (6 mph).

How the 180º Tilt Works The Safe-Stop 180º TMA can be folded for storage with the push of a button on the control box. The RAISE button is used to fold the system and the LOWER button is used to unfold it. The STOP button can be pushed at any time to stop the system.

SafeStop Trailer Mounted - NEW

The Safe-Stop Trailer (SST) Mounted TMA provides maximum protection with the lowest installation, operational and maintenance costs. The SST TMA features a heavy duty torsion suspension axle and anti-rotational dampeners that lock upon impact to provide maximum protection, without affecting driveability. It is mounted to the host vehicle using a standard 20 ton pintle hook.

The Safe-Stop Trailer Mounted TMA has optional mounts for integrating an arrow/message board.
