Crash Performance - NCHRP 350 Test Level 3 - Redirective, Gating

The QuadTrend 350 System is a convenient end treatment that can be attached directly to concrete barriers, bridge rails and abutments located on the side of the road. The system consists of a series of Quad-Beam fender panels, support posts with slip bases and sand-filled cartridges.

During head-on impacts, the QuadTrend 350 System telescopes rearward and the sand from the cartridges dissipates collision energy to bring the vehicle to a safe, controlled stop behind the system. During side impacts, the QuadTrend 350 System redirects errant vehicles away from the barrier end without vaulting, spearing or ramping. However, as a gating system, the QuadTrend 350 like all end treatments, requires sufficient clear zone behind the system.

A complete system - The QuadTrend 350 System is designed to attach directly to concrete barrier, bridge rails and abutments without the need for additional transition guiderail sections. This significantly reduces hardware expenses and installation time. Posts and major components are above ground meaning quicker, easier installation and refurbishment. Lenient post alignment requirements make the system much less prone to injury-causing failure due to buckling - unlike extrusion or slotted rail systems. No wooden posts to dig our after impact saves on refurbishment time and costs. Typically 70% - 80% reusable after design impacts.
