Crash Performance - NCHRP 230 - Redirective, Non-Gating
The Construction Zone G-R-E-A-T (G-R-E-A-T CZ) provides in a compact, portable unit the same lifesaving efficiency and features of much larger permanent systems. Safety-engineered by Energy Absorption Systems, Inc., the G-R-E-A-T CZ offers the same response and performance characteristics as the standard G-R-E-A-T System. The G-R-E-A-T System consists of crushable Hex-Foam II cartridges surrounded by a framework of triple-corrugated steel guiderail. When hit head-on, the energy absorbing cartridges crush to dissipate the energy of the impact, while the steel guiderail side panels telescope.
The G-R-E-A-T CZ provides maximum temporary protection at construction sites of all kinds... whether it be the end of an unfinished median barrier, bridge piers, temporary or permanent safety walls, light posts, or even in a freestanding position to protect crewmen from the danger of impacts.
WTransporting the G-R-E-A-T CZ is easy because of its relatively lightweight and modular construction. The unit is constructed in segments that are connected at the time of installation. When the need arises to move the G-R-E-A-T CZ from one site to another, it is easily moved without the need for heavy equipment. Or, should a crane be readily availabe, the entire G-R-E-A-T CZ can be moved as a single unit with the aid of the lifting lugs located along the base plate.
The G-R-E-A-T CZ should be located on a concrete surface, concrete pad, or 3-inch minimum asphaltic surface. It is anchored with either anchor bolts or anchor pins supplied with the unit. When there is no longer a need for temporary site protection, or when the construction job is finished, the G-R-E-A-T CZ may be permanently installed on a prepared site, where it will function in the same way as a conventional G-R-E-A-T System.
